Safety Tips For Dates

The Internet is great. It lets you shop, it lets you find info, and now, it even lets you find a date. Of course it is much different from the traditional way, but it is certainly more convenient. There are tons of services, like FriendFinder, which have tons of members, so finding somebody with similar interests is a snap.

However, when dating online, you need to make sure you are safe. If you meet somebody on FriendFinder, and have only IMed/PMed them, you cannot be sure that person is safe. However, if you follow these guidelines, you can have a great online date.

First, you should always make the arrangements to meet your date. Don’t let your date pick you up at home or know your home address. This applies to both the first date and subsequent dates if you’re unsure of your interest in the person. You should also only give out your cell phone number, and not your home landline number which can be traced to your address. Don’t worry about anyone taking offense; this is your personal safety at stake and be very firm about this.

You have to meet in public places, such as concerts, cafes, or movies, with lots of people. Also, you can go on a double date, with a friend. This might seem awkward, but again, it’s safe.

Another thing you have to watch out for is drinking alcohol. It can impair your judgment or you can let your guard down. If you choose to drink though, try to keep it to a minimum, and stay alert.

On a first date, it’s always a good idea to go dutch and pay your half of the bill. Doing so will not make your date feel that you’re obligated to have a second date in the event you aren’t interested. Don’t worry about offending and stand your ground.

Make sure that you tell a friend of yours that you are going on a date. State the place you are going to and when you will be back. Ask the friend to call you after you get home, to make sure you are safe. Or you can end the date by going to your friend.

Last but not least, trust your judgment. If something doesn’t feel right about the person, then it probably isn’t. If you feel uneasy, end the date early. Just because you talked with the person a lot by email, you can only see that something is not right with that person when you talk to him/her in person. If you trust your judgment and use common sense, you will have a safe and great date!

I agree that in the past online dating was looked at by most people from a very skeptical view..now a days many online dating sites provide photo verified pictures and other security features to keep you safe..all in all i think online dating is safer now then before
